Nathan Murphy

Founder & Editor, Morning Post

Hi, I'm Nathan — the person behind Morning Post.

I started this newsletter early in 2026 with one mission: to create the best possible morning read for older Australians. I didn't really grasp at the time what it would become, or quite how bombarded my inbox would get — but golly gosh, what a ride it's been.

I run it around a family and a mortgage, and the whole ambition is honest and unglamorous: to make this good enough, and sustainable enough, that I get to keep doing it for you for years to come. That's why I read every reply, take every complaint to heart, and keep tinkering away to make it better.

I like to be transparent with readers — a rare thing in media these days — so here's a bit more about me, work and life both.

I grew up in the western suburbs of Sydney and moved away at twenty. I never went to uni; I've always been more of a self-starter who learns by doing. Through my twenties I started a string of businesses — a few did well, most went nowhere, and I learned something from every one of them.

Now I'm in my thirties, married with two kids and a Cavoodle. Every morning starts the same way: first I make sure Morning Post goes out, then the kids are up and we wander down the street to our local café for a caffeine fix and a yarn with friends.

If you're curious about my work history, you can connect with me on LinkedIn.

As editor and founder of this rag, I feel responsible for what Morning Post sends out each morning — and, perhaps more importantly, what it doesn't. Two promises on that front:

First, we'll never take a cent of sponsorship from a political party, a gambling company or a crypto outfit.

Second, Morning Post has to be genuinely useful to earn its place in your inbox each day. My pledge is simple: to keep listening to your feedback, and to keep making it so.

Behind the scenes

Every so often I pull the curtain back and write to you properly — what I've been building, what I've changed my mind about, and what's on my mind. Here's the notebook so far.

A look behind the curtain

A peek at what one person has been building for you — the things you asked for that I actually did, the puzzle I pulled, a mistake I fixed, and the honest truth about how a free local paper keeps going.
